SAN RAFAEL >> Lower Lake High School’s wrestling squad is one of 10 teams in the running for the Division II-Redwood Empire title on Saturday at the North Coast Section Duals in San Rafael.

“I’m excited,” Lower Lake coach Ed Fuchs said of the Trojans’ first appearance in the tournament.

Teams will be seeded 1-10 early Saturday morning. The top six seeds draw first-round byes while the 8-9 and 7-10 seeds battle in the first round.

“We’re hoping for a four, five or six seed,” Fuchs said.

Joining Lower Lake in the field are league/conference champions Eureka, Redwood and Windsor high school, runner-up teams Lower Lake, Fortuna, Tamalpais, Ukiah and Del Norte, and at-large selections San Rafael and Casa Grande.

The winning team receives a pennant and individual medals, the runner-up gets a trophy and individual medals, the third-place team receives a pennant and individual medals, and the fourth-place team gets individual medals.

Lower Lake completed its Coastal Mountain Conference schedule on Wednesday with a sweep of Willits, Point Arena and Technology high schools. The Trojans finished 8-1 in the CMC standings, one game behind Fort Bragg (9-0).
