It is terrorism

Rubbing fecal matter or any other hazardous or biological substance on a public building where others may come in contact with it is act of terrorism and should be treated as such. A little federal time is warranted.

Thanks to Sutter

I can’t imagine that many people have “be a hospital patient” on their bucket list, but if they do, Sutter Lakeside Hospital is the place to go. I was a patient at Sutter for three surgeries — two in December and one in February.

While it’s not a five star resort, I was treated as if I was a guest at one. All the staff was friendly, caring, and concerned about my recovery. When I say “staff”, I mean everyone from room cleaners to surgeons, from kitchen workers to management, and all in between. I forgot to leave my wedding ring at home, and my wife dropped it while dashing to the car late Friday night in the driving rain; she called the hospital and Dr. Scheidemann and Ron from housekeeping searched with flashlights in the rain until they found it.

My thanks to one and all!

The wrong game

I have been reading the column on gaming in the paper and what comes across is that there is an acknowledgment that the games are violent and targeted to young men, but there is this belief that exposure to violence and the practice of killing is no need for alarm.

Training someone to be a killer, which is what repeating practice of shooting a firearm at a person is, has traditionally been restricted to institutions, which take responsibility, for example, the military or police. They have trained young men in discipline, levels of command and the rules of restraint for violence. These institutions have weeded out those who seem unfit for the responsibility of using a firearm. A criminal past also prohibited a person from practicing and increasing their skill in shooting. Experienced and trusted men are placed in authority over boys to guide, encourage, teach and discipline them.

To think that young men can practice shooting a weapon for hours a day at images of human beings and not be affected is naïve at best. Some of these games show people pleading for their lives before their deaths.

Did you know public outrage moved 40,000 people in Australia to sign a petition that caused their stores not to carry these games? The argument is that someone can partake in such violence and then act normal in society, but history shows that is not an uncommon occurrence. The guards at the concentration camps in Germany were known to leave their work and go home to their families enjoying evenings listening to classical music. Woe unto him that calleth evil good.
