MIDDLETOWN >> Caity Bowe is 16 years old, a resident of south Lake County and a homeschooled high school senior who will attend the University of Minnesota in the fall. But she also volunteers to help students in Africa.
Bowe is the featured speaker at this month’s Middletown Luncheon Club lunch, Feb. 18, from noon to 1 p.m.
She spent three weeks last summer volunteering at a small town in Africa.
“I knew there was more to life than just sitting at home all summer and I was ready to see it,” Bowe said. She chose this project, raised funding for her trip, and travelled by herself. This young woman will share her experience living near the Anlona elementary school in Ghana and helping build and teach there.
As it has been since its founding in 1929, the Middletown Luncheon Club is open to any person who wishes to attend. The luncheon club meets on the third Wednesday of each month (with the exception of the month of December) from noon to 1 p.m. at the Middletown Senior Center at 21256 Washington St., one block off of Calistoga behind the new park. Each month features a different speaker and a different nonprofit service organization to serve the lunch. Both the senior center and the serving organization receive a donation from the luncheon club for their help, so your attendance supports multiple nonprofits. This month’s serving group is the Middletown Lionesses.
The senior center will be preparing beef with broccoli, brown rice and pineapple fluff salad for $5. All ages are welcome. Dessert and beverages are included.
Space is limited for lunch. Make your reservation by calling the senior center at 987-3113 (specify that you are with the luncheon club). Guests are also welcome to come hear the speaker for free without buying lunch.
