UPPER LAKE >> The Upper Lake Cougars gave the Sonoma Academy Coyotes all they could want for 2½ quarters before falling 65-32 in a North Central League II varsity boys’ basketball game on Wednesday night in Upper Lake.

Upper Lake (2-11 league, 2-21 overall) trailed just 25-20 at halftime. It was still close midway through the third quarter when Sonoma Academy began working the ball inside to 6-foot-5 center Drake Herold, who scored 10 of his team-leading 17 points in the period.

“They just kept feeding the ball to him and we couldn’t stop it,” Upper Lake coach Justin Dutcher said. “He’s 6-5 and our tallest guy is 6-2.”

The Coyotes took a 48-27 lead into the final period.

Jon Sparks led Upper Lake with 12 points.
