The spring season means high hopes and lofty expectations for many of Lake County’s spring sports athletes and teams, including the Lower Lake High School softball squad, which finished last season with a 17-8 record. The Trojans were home on a sunny Friday afternoon to scrimmage their southern neighbors, the Middletown Mustangs, who are looking to improve on last season’s 12-9 mark. The spring is also a time for new players such as Lower Lake freshman catcher/third baseman Kayla Fox (above) to make their mark and impress their coaches, which could lead to playing time down the road. Both teams officially open their seasons on Tuesday. Lower Lake hosts Piner at 3:30 p.m. and Middletown plays in Calistoga at 3:30 p.m.
