Lake County >> The documentary film “The Russian River: All Rivers — The Value of an American Watershed” will screen at the Lake County Board of Supervisors Chamber on March 25 at 7 p.m. This particular screening is sponsored by Sierra Club Lake Group Chapter.

The film focuses on the complex history of the Russian River, a story common to rivers and watersheds everywhere, and has screened in several venues in Sonoma County and Mendocino County – and soon in Napa County – to maximum capacity. The audiences have been filled with citizens who are concerned about their water sources and sincerely want to learn more about their local watershed. This film was created by filmmakers who live within the Russian River watershed.

Synopsis

The Russian River: All Rivers – The Value of An American Watershed, explores the conflicts and challenges to restore and retain the health of California’s legendary Russian River.

Shot in ultra high definition, the feature-length documentary brings together live action footage and numerous compelling interviews to stimulate interest in, and motivate action about water use, water quality and the loss of irreplaceable biodiversity. The film also covers the river’s history, as a geological, biological and social entity, as well as the problems it currently faces – problems shared by rivers everywhere, especially in the Pacific Northwest.

Interviews for the film include water activist Maude Barlow, author of “Blue Future: Protecting Water for People and the Planet Forever”; Marty Griffin, environmentalist, author and Founder of “Friends of the Russian River”; Jim Lichatowich, author of “Salmon Without Rivers and Salmon, People and Place”; Don McEnhill, Executive Director of Russian Riverkeeper; David Keller, Bay Area Director of Friends of the Eel River, and many other scientists and individuals representing public and private agencies and organizations.

This film was created as a non-profit project and is sponsored by the International Documentary Association (IDA).
