LAKE COUNTY >> The American Red Cross of the Northern California Coastal Region is seeks volunteers to serve here in the community. Anyone with a few hours to spare each month and a desire to make a difference helping Lake County families affected by disaster is encouraged to attend the Volunteer Orientation and Disaster Services workshop on Feb. 28 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lakeport Senior Activity Center located at 527 Konocti Ave. in Lakeport.

The event is for residents and skilled professionals who are interested in helping others and giving back to their communities through the American Red Cross. Red Cross staff members and volunteers will describe the various volunteer opportunities that are available within the Red Cross lines of service: disaster services, blood services, service to Armed Forces and health and safety services.

The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies about 40 percent of the nation’s blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.

To register for the free orientation, contact Eva Marquez at 438-7062, as lunch will be served.
