Clearlake >> Three armed suspects falsely claiming to be police officers shot a man after breaking into his home early Saturday morning, according to authorities. Two remain at large.

At about 2:29 a.m., Clearlake police responded to a report of a possible gunshot victim under treatment at the St. Helena Hospital, Clear Lake Emergency Room. The victim, a 35-year-old man, reported that he and his wife were sleeping when three armed men broke into their home on Jackson Street. The victim informed investigators that the three identified themselves as Clearlake officers, according to Clearlake Police Department (CPD) Sgt. Nick Bennett. One of the suspects allegedly shot the victim in the hip and the three fled.

The victim and his wife reportedly recognized one of the suspects as Jose Murillo, a cousin by marriage. Law enforcement officers located Murillo and he was arrested by CPD officer Mike Ray at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Bennett stated.

Murillo was booked into the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility and charged with attempted murder, burglary and impersonating a peace officer.

The investigation is continuing on the arrests of the other two suspects involved in the incident.

Any person with information in relation to the case is encouraged to contact CPD officer Travis Lenz at 994-8251 ext. 511.
