Lakeport >> Former sheriff Frank Rivero and the Lake County Board of Supervisors are scheduled for a review hearing Friday related to the $75,000 settlement the supervisors approved late last month regarding Rivero’s attorney fees.

The legal costs stem from Rivero’s fight against being placed on the Brady List, which brings into question the credibility of a government witness in a court of law.

District Attorney (DA) Don Anderson placed Rivero on the list in 2013 after an investigation into a 2008 incident for which Rivero’s testimony did not coincide with other eyewitness accounts.

Rivero appealed Anderson’s decision and sought a restraining order to prohibit him from releasing the results of the investigation. While county supervisors initially argued they no longer needed to cover Rivero’s expenses, his appeal to the 1st District Court brought the ruling that the county would be responsible in paying the bill.

After a closed session on Jan. 27, the Lake County Board of Supervisors accepted the negotiated settlement of the attorney fees 3-1, with Jim Steele recusing himself and Rob Brown voting no.

The hearing is scheduled to take place at the Lake County Courthouse Department 1 Friday at 3:30 p.m.
