FORESTVILLE >> Renee Edwards struck out 14 batters and scattered two hits as the Middletown Mustangs overpowered the El Molino Lions 10-3 in non-league softball action at Forestville.
Edwards and teammate Hannah Flynn also did well at the plate. Edwards went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs while Flynn doubled twice and drove in three runs.
Olivia Glosser and Madi Chiapuzio added two hits apiece for the Mustangs, who had 13 hits in all.
“We started off a little bit slow but the girls kept plugging along,” Middletown coach Barry Glosser said. “Renee was as strong as ever. For as young a team as we are we’re going through some growing pains but we’re getting better.”
Middletown returns to action Tuesday against Piner in Santa Rosa.

Lower Lake 10
Calistoga 0
At Calistoga, Shelbie Harris pitched a seven-inning no hitter and struck out 10 as the Lower Lake Trojans improved to 2-0 with a non-league win over the Calistoga Wildcats.
Only two balls hit off Harris had a chance of being a hit. One curled foul and another was misplayed for an error, according to Lower Lake coach Chris Emberson. Harris, a senior, finished with 11 strikeouts and walked two.
Lower Lake scored a run in the top of the first inning to give Harris all the support she would need. The Trojans padded their lead with three runs in the third, two in the sixth and four more in the seventh.
Katrina Rinoldi went 2-for-3 with a RBI to power Lower Lake’s 10-hit attack. Alex DeGraw (1-for-3) drove in three runs and scored twice, and Kristen Celli went 1-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs.
Lower Lake scrimmaged Justin-Siena on Friday in Napa. The Trojans return to action next week with a home game Tuesday against Pierce and a road game Thursday against St. Vincent in Petaluma.

Calistoga 1
At Calistoga, the Lower Lake Trojans won their season opener on Thursday by pounding the Calistoga Wildcats.
“The pitching wasn’t solid but it was good enough,” Lower Lake coach John McCarthy said. “Just having one error was the key to the game.”
Lower Lake (1-0) scored twice in each of the first two inning to go up 4-0. The Trojans broke the game open with a three-run sixth to make it 7-1.
Tony Jones, the first of three Lower Lake pitchers, worked three innings for the victory. He allowed all three Calistoga hits, an unearned run, struck out eight and walked one. Ryan McCarthy and David Rank each pitched two innings in relief. McCarthy also went 1-for-3 with a RBI.
Lower Lake is home Tuesday to play Pierce.
