Clearlake >> Hair by Mz C will host a potluck to celebrate Black History Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. It will feature guest speakers ranging from community leaders to pastors.

The event is a collaboration between the business and One Step Forward, a nonprofit that helps the homeless and works toward offering transitional housing.

“Black History Month is a time where we can discuss the past of our country as well as the future,” Clearlake City Councilman Bruno Sabatier stated. “It is a historical reminder of the challenges and hurdles that we as Americans have faced as we redefine what it means to be American (and) continue to strive for social equality for every American. Black history is not just about the experience of the black community. Black history is celebrated because it is the basis for every other civil rights movement throughout our history. Lessons learned by the black community in achieving or pushing forward equal rights has been used by women’s rights, labor rights, immigrant rights and so many more. This is why Black History Month celebration celebrates America’s journey toward a more perfect union.”
