VISALIA >> Upper Lake High School freshman Christina Wilson split her two matches on Saturday during the second and final day of the CIF State Girls’ Wrestling Championships at the Visalia Convention Center in Visalia.

After going 2-1 during Friday’s preliminary rounds at 121 pounds, Wilson opened day two with a 17-4 win over Fayth Woodward of Nevada Union High School to reach the consolation quarterfinals. Needing one more win to gain a top-eight section finish, Wilson ran into North Coast Section champion Eva Piroth of Albany in the consolation semifinals and was pinned late in the first round. Piroth went on to win two more matches and place third.

Wilson, a surprise third-place finisher at the NCS Championships on Feb. 14 in Ukiah, was one of only two Lake County wrestlers to reach the state tournament where she went 3-2 overall. The other, Middletown junior 131-pounder Kailei Foltmer, was eliminated during day one of the tournament on Friday. Foltmer also finished third at the sectional tournament in Ukiah two weeks earlier.
