Lakeport >> It took but just 5 minutes for crews to knock down a house fire Wednesday morning. All that was left to see from the outside were a few plumes of smoke that quickly cleared as well.
Reports of smoke coming from a home on George Street came in at about 9:45 a.m. There were several people inside, but Lakeport Fire Protection District (LFPD) Chief Doug Hutchinson said neither they nor fire personnel sustained any injuries.
Hutchinson said at the scene it was unclear yet just how much damage the fire caused, but it most likely started around the chimney.
LFPD responded with a chief, two engines and a medic unit; CAL FIRE came in with an engine and Kelseyville Fire Protection District brought an engine, a water tender and a battalion chief.
Hutchinson said a total of 12 fire personnel responded to the blaze. Including the time it took them to clean up after knocking down the fire, the crews were out within about an hour of the initial report.
