
LAKEPORT >> Jerry Wilson of Shingle Springs and Danny Cross of Cool beat out a field of 80 teams to win the Future Pro Team Classic on Sunday at Clear Lake. They caught 79.6 pounds during the three-day tournament to win a new Ranger bass boat valued at $40,000.
Wilson and Cross were in 37th place at the end of Friday’s first round with 12.39 pounds. They came back strong on Saturday with 37.85 pounds to move into second place as the field was cut to the top 15 teams for Sunday’s final round. They added another 29.36 pounds during the final round to edge out Justin Nelson and Tony Koregelos (78.01 pounds), the second-round leaders.
Wilson and Cross said they caught most of their fish in Rodman Slough on Rat-L-Trap crankbaits.
Nelson and Koregelos won $2,450 for second place while the third-place team of Brian Guerini and Jason Wright brought 70.83 pounds to the scales and won $1,300.
The big fish of the tournament was caught by the team of Kevin and Kirby Wallace of Granite Bay, the leaders after Friday’s first round. It weighed 9.95 pounds and was worth $600 in prize money. The Wallaces also finished 10th in the team standings with 56.25 pounds and won an additional $300.
The tournament paid down to 15 spots.
Weigh-ins all three days took place at Library Park in Lakeport.
