Clearlake >> Pomo School, of the Konocti Unified School District, will host its second “Family Fooducation Fair” on Tuesday from 5:15 to 7:15 p.m.
“After the great success from last year’s event, this year will be bigger, tastier and much more filling,” Bruno Sabatier said.
Within the event, there will be booths offering information on how to make it easier to access food, especially for those with limited resources.
There will be tables showcasing recipes using healthy foods at affordable prices. Tables will also offer suggestions on how to involve the children in making food, as well as gardening tips and suggestions for simple and affordable gardens.
The grand attraction of the event will be the cooking presentations. Chefs and culinary programs will have the chance to show those who attend how to make an affordable, healthy meal. The goal for this event is multi-faceted, according to Sabatier.
“Family Fooducation wants to increase the engagement of the parents and students on school campus,” he said. “This gives the families an opportunity to get to know the staff and the facility better.”
They want to increase the health of families in the community by giving them the information they need to make the right decision(s) for proper nutrition. A healthy student in school is much more apt to succeed than a malnourished student. Giving parents tips on how their children can help with this process also increases the parent and child involvement on activities they can do together at home.
“So, please come down to Pomo to learn, eat and take home the information you and your children need to have a healthy lifestyle,” Sabatier said.
This event is free to the public. For information, contact Shane Lee at 994-6744 ext. 2335 or at mrlessclassroom@yahoo.com.
