GUERNEVILLE >> El Molino defeated Kelseyville 174-201 in a non-conference golf match on Wednesday afternoon at Northwood Golf Course in Guerneville.

It was the 2015 opener for the Knights, who were led by freshman Matt Wotherspoon’s 6-over-par round of 43 on the nine-hole Northwood layout, one that winds its way through a maze of giant redwood trees. Wotherspoon had one birdie during his round.

“What a gorgeous setting,” said longtime Kelseyville coach John Berry in his first trip to Northwood. “They have giant trees everywhere.”

Cutter Dittman of El Molino fired the day’s low round, a 1-under-par 37.

Also for Kelseyville, Joe Tannous finished with 48, Sophie Sells had 51 and freshman Israel Gonzales carded a 59.

The Knights are back in action today when they host Fort Bragg, Mendocino, Point Arena and Willits in a non-conference match at Adams Springs Golf Course on Cobb Mountain. Play begins at noon. Kelseyville also travels to the Hilmar Invitational on Monday before opening its Coastal Mountain Conference South schedule on March 18 at Adobe Creek Golf Course in Petaluma.
