WILLITS >> Terrace Middle School wrestlers opened their season last week at a tournament in Willits and came home with eight medals.
Terrace sent a squad of four boys and five girls to the season-opening competition. First-place medals went to Sergio Rodriguez and Mavis Pyorre. Teagan Miller came in second while third-place medals went to George Fred, Will Green Scarlett Ballard, Mia Depaz-Flores and Lupita Heredia.
Rodriguez pinned all of his opponents en route to winning his weight class. Pyorre so dominated her division she didn’t allow a single point.
Miller was competing in her first tournament while Green, Ballard, Depaz-Flores and Heredia are all first-time wrestlers.
“I was really proud of all of them,” head coach Steve Fisher said. “They all wrestled very well, especially considering the limited number of practices due to our late start.”
