PETALUMA >> It’s a new season for the teams that make up the Coastal Mountain Conference South but St. Vincent of Petaluma remains the school to beat.

The Mustangs opened the 2015 conference schedule on their home course Wednesday and posted a 35-stroke victory over their closest competitor. St. Vincent fired a 315 (the combined total of the four lowest scorers) to win at the par-72 Adobe Creek Golf Club. Middletown came in second with 350, Kelseyville followed at 387, St. Helena had 422, Clear Lake finished with 427 and Rincon Valley Christian had 442. One golfer from Geyserville and one from Sonoma Academy also participated.

“St. Vincent is by far the class of the league,” longtime Kelseyville coach John Berry said. “Their highest score that counted (toward the team total) was 81. They threw out an 83 and a 90.”

Alex Graham led St. Vincent with a 2-over-par 74. Low round honors belonged to St. Helena’s Ryan Johnson at 1-under-par 71.

For runner-up Middleotwn, Riley Adams led the way with 80, including one birdie, and Chasen Tom was just a shot back at 81, including two birdies. Tyler McSwain finished with 90 and also had a birdie while Chelsea Tom had 99.

“Middletown has some ability but lacks the depth of a St. Vincent,” Berry said.

Matt Wotherspoon led third-place Kelseyville with a round of 81 that featured three birdies. Joe Tannous was next at 98, Israel Gonzales had 99, and Sophie Sells carded a 109.

Clear Lake, the newest member of the CMC South, was led by Brian Holt’s 89. Nick Dudley finished with 111, Mike Camacho had 113, and Breanna Scott had 114.

Other low rounds went to Carson Kalbflrisch of Geyserville with 83 and Lucas Lorenc of Sonoma Academy with 84.

The CMC South meets against next Wednesday at Foxtail Golf Course in Rohnert Park.
