LOOMIS >> Team captain Jose Fernandez III of the Upper Lake Junior Cougars wrestling club finished third in the 112-pound division on Saturday at the NorCal Tournament of Champions at Del Oro High School in Loomis.
Fernandez went 5-1 in his 26-man weight bracket. His only loss was a one-point decision in the semifinals. He opened the tournament with a second-round pin, won 11-0 in his next match and 14-1 in the quarterfinals.
After losing in the semifinals, he won 13-4 in the consolation semifinals and 14-2 in the third-place match.
The Junior Cougars return to action this weekend when they compete in the Folkstyle State Championships at Selland Arena in Fresno.
