Lakeport >> The Lakeport Lions Club is seeking civic-minded men and women to join them in making a difference in the community. The club invites people who want to learn more about the club and its work to attend one of its upcoming meetings.

Lakeport Lions meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 7 p.m. at the Scotts Valley Women’s Clubhouse located at 2298 Hendricks Road in Lakeport.

“Our club gives members an opportunity to advance worthy causes, serve with friends and become leaders in the community. This club means a lot to our Lions, but it means so much more to the people we serve,” said Kandee Stolesen, club immediate past president. “We want to share the great things we’re doing in the community, and let others know how they can help.”

The Lions’ motto is “We Serve,” and the Lakeport Lions Club has lived up to it, according to Stolesen. The club has been active for more than 80 years. From donations of more than 3,000 stuffed animals to Sutter Lakeside Hospital’s Emergency Room for Children; annual scholarships for high school students of more than $2,500; support of Literacy Task Force; Reading Program at Lakeport Elementary School; Lions Eye Foundation — support children and adults in need of eye care; financial support of Operation Tango Mike and help to pack monthly care packages to the troops; Meals on Wheels/Lakeport Senior Activity Center Center; sponsorship of Boy Scout Troop No. 42 Charter; support Special Olympics; support for camps — for deaf and blind children; support canine companions; recycling of eye glasses and hearing aides.
