LAKEPORT >> Law enforcement officers arrested a man on Monday afternoon suspected of responsibility for a series of crimes.

Lakeport police Sgt. Gary Basor and officer Tyler Trouette, with assistance from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office placed Angel De Jesus CoronaTelles, 24 of Lakeport, into custody after finding burglary tools in his possession during an investigative stop.

Further questioning and a search of the N. Main St. residence where CoronaTelles was living uncovered property and evidence allegedly linking him to repeated acts of vandalism at both the Lakeport Public Library and Pet Country, as well as thefts from several newspaper machines.

The spree began on Feb. 27, when glass doors were discovered smashed at both the library and the pet store. On March 6, library staff found a window broken. Three days later, a door was shattered at the pet store.

By the middle of March, the library had suffered two more smashed doors, with items missing from inside and a door at Pet Country ended up with damage after an apparent burglary attempt.

Damages and loss from these crimes amount to almost $3,300.

According to Brad Rasmussen, Lakeport’s Chief of Police, CoronaTelles confessed to breaking a newspaper machine and opening the coin box, as well as incidents at the Library and pet shop.

“This arrest was made due to diligent police work and I thank and commend all of our officers for their ongoing work on these cases over the past month,” Rasmussen said in a press statement announcing the arrest.

CoronaTelles was booked into Lake County Correctional Facility on felony charges of burglary and vandalism, possession of stolen property and tools related to theft.

“Our investigation into these crimes is continuing to include determining if any other persons were involved or if this suspect is involved in other crimes,” Rasmussen stated.
