Jose Fernandez III of the Upper Lake Junior Cougars wrestling club leaves today to compete in the 26th annual NHSCA High School National Wrestling Championships beginning on Sunday in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He is the only California wrestler entered in the 112-pound middle school division, a 32-man bracket. Following Sunday’s competition, Fernandez III travels to Des Moines, Iowa, for a three-day wrestling camp at Iowa State University. He’ll then compete in the Cliff Keen USA Fokstyle Nationals beginning Thursday at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. He returns to Lake County on April 5.
