WILLITS >> The combined swimming team from Clear Lake and Kelseyville high schools continue to overwhelm the opposition in Coastal Mountain Conference action. On Thursday they took care of business at Willits High School.

The girls won 10 of 11 events and the boys eight of 11.

“We have several new swimmers in the water and they have practiced hard and shown a great amount of improvement in competition,” head coach Agustin Merodio said. “And our veteran swimmers know when to push themselves extra hard to claim victory.”

Danielle Erickson claimed victory in the last lap of the 200-yard freestyle while Lauren Rudnick won both the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle. Paige LaVrar won the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, and Liz Fricker won the 500 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.

For the boys, Max Madrzyk, new to the high school team this year, won the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Returning swimmers Owen Lawler and Diego Tejeda have yet to lose an event this season, with Lawler winning the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke, and Tejeda capturing the 500 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

Both the boys and the girls won all three relay events.

The swim team members invite the public to attend the April 11 bingo night at the Lakeport Senior Center at 5 p.m. This is the team’s biggest fundraiser of the year and all proceeds support the swim club’s efforts to stay in the water.
