
FRESNO >> Six members of the Lake County Wrestling Club competed in the USA Folkstyle Championships last weekend and Alex Garcia led the way with a third-place finish, winning seven of eight matches, including his first three by pin.
Garcia’s lone loss came in the quarterfinals against nemesis Dwayne Guerrero of Concord. Guerrero, who had beaten Garcia on two other occasions, won on a late third-round pin.
Garcia battled back to win his next four matches in the consolation bracket to claim third place, including a win by pin in the third-place match.
Ricky Campos, competing in the 87-pound intermediate division, defeated Ammer Khan of Elk Grove Wrestling by 9-4 decision in a fifth-place match.
Carmen Garcia finished sixth in the Novice 80-pound girls’ division, dropping a hard-fought 4-1 decision to Tatyanna Fuentes in the fifth-place match.
Colin Jensen went 2-2 in the intermediate 60-pound division.
Gabriel Ambriz and Brandon Garcia competed in the 75-pound and 70-pound Novice divisions, respectively. Both wrestlers went 1-2.
Next up for the Lake County Wrestling Club members are the SCHWAY California State Championship and the Reno Worlds.
