LAKEPORT >> Upper Lake High School’s track teams and new coach John Plencner made their season debut last weekend against the Clear Lake Cardinals in Lakeport.
David Becerra-Lopez had a busy day for the Upper Lake boys, posting a top team time of 58.41 seconds in the 400-meter run and a top team jump of 17 feet, 1 inch in the long jump. He also ran a leg on the Cougars’ 4×100 relay team, which finished in 49.91.
Alberto Lopez ran an 11.94 in the 100 dash and had a jump of 35 feet, 7½ inches in the triple jump. He also ran a leg of the 4×100 relay.
Another standout for the Cougars was Wroehnyn Milks, who had the team’s top times in both the 800 at 2 minutes, 48.44 seconds, and the 1,600 (6:17).
Standouts for the Upper Lake girls were Amber Drake in the 100 (12.75) and long jump (14-5). She also ran a leg on the school’s 4×100 relay team (58.59). Heather Hankins posted the Cougars’ top marks in the 400 (1:10.85) and high jump (3-10), and Mercedes de los Santos did so in the 800 (3:35.7) and 1,600 (8:03). Angel Stith had the top time in the 110 hurdles (19.89) with Drake close behind (19.99).
Upper Lake’s track team have this week off for spring break but will be back in action April 8 during a Coastal Mountain Conference meet in Cloverdale at 3:30 p.m. The Cougars are back in Lake County on April 15 to compete in the annual Lake County Meet at Clear Lake High School at 3:30 p.m.
