ST. HELENA >> With two of St. Helena’s top singles players away on spring break, the Kelseyville Knights took advantage by giving the Saints their best Coastal Mountain Conference match of the season on Wednesday in St. Helena.

After dropping a 5-0 decision to a full-strength St. Helena squad on March 24 in Kelseyville, the Knights fell 3-2 to an understrength Saints squad during Wednesday’s rematch.

“It wasn’t a bagel so I’m happy about that,” Kelseyville coach Laurie Vargas said of the final score.

Keleyville’s wins both came in singles. Drew Ashby beat Kelly Hinds 6-1, 6-2 in second singles while Mary McCallister defeated Giana DeVincenzi 6-1, 6-2 in third singles.

The Knights lost both doubles matches, which combined with Natalie Stanton’s 6-2, 6-1 victory over Kelseyville’s Claire Vargas in first singles kept the Saints undefeated in the CMC standings.

Lucas Lyons and Easton Ellis beat Merin Rixen and Summer Brown 6-0, 6-0 in first doubles while Gus Alfaro and Kyle McCaffrey defeated Kristen Amendola and Savannah Molley 6-0, 6-1 in second doubles.

Kelseyville is home on Tuesday to play Cloverdale and away on Wednesday against Middletown at Hidden Valley Lake. Both matches begin at 4 p.m.
