COBB >> Coastal Mountain Conference South golf leader St. Vincent remained undefeated on the season with a victory Wednesday afternoon at the par-68 Adam Springs Golf Course on Cobb Mountain.

The nine-hole Adam Springs layout, the home course of the Kelseyville Knights, agreed quite nicely with the St. Vincent squad. Its low four scorers all shot in the 70s, led by Jack Hood with a 3-over-par 71. The Mustangs finished with a team total of 299 to beat out Middletwon (324), Kelseyville (348), Clear Lake (417), Rincon Valley Christian (424) and St. Helena (429), which was minus its top golfer, Ryan Johnson (away on spring break).

While St. Vincent owned team honors, the low round of the day went to Middletown’s Riley Adams with a 2-over-par 70 that featured five birdies.

“A very impressive round for Riley Adams,” Kelseyville head coach John Berry said. “He knows the course but has never broken through here.”

Matt Wotherspoon of the host Knights finished with a team-leading 74 that included three birdies, and Middletown’s Chasen Tom carded a 78 with one birdie.

Among other low rounds were Geyserville’s Carson Kalbflerisch with 81 and Sonoma Academy’s Lucas Lorenz at 84. Kalbflerisch and Lorenz are the only golfers for their respective teams.

Leading Clear Lake, a first-year member of the CMC South, was Brian Holt with a 97.

Among a handful of girls in the field, Kelseyville’s Sophie Sells led the way with a 90 that featured one birdie.

“That’s a very good score,” Berry said.

The golfers completed the round in less than four hours.

“Pace of play was good,” Berry said.

CMC South teams return to Lake County next Wednesday when they visit the 18-hole Hidden Valley Lake Course, the home of the Middletown Mustangs. Play begins at 1:30 p.m. Kelseyville’s squad also plays at Hidden Valley Lake today in non-conference action against members of the CMC North — Fort Bragg, Willits, Point Arena and Mendocino — at noon.
