Challenged by Lower Lake High School coaches Ed Fuchs (pictured) and Tim Biasotti to beat last year’s total of $1,035, Burns Valley Elementary School students in Clearlake raised $1,845.82 during the Jump Rope For Heart fundraiser for the American Heart Association. Fuchs, a teacher at Burns Valley, and Biasotti, a teacher at Lower Lake High, paid off on the challenge Wednesday by letting students cut their hair. It was up to the students how much hair came off each coach. The leading fundraiser got her choice of coaches and first-grader Liberty Fuchs picked her dad Ed. Two other students were drawn at random and first-grader Uriel Martinez picked Biasotti. It’s the second year both Fuchs and Biasotti have participated in the event. According to Fuchs, the highest amount raised prior to 2014 was around $600. Burns Valley students packed the school’s cafeteria to watch the shearing.
