LAKEPORT >> Earlier this month, on April 2, members of the Clear Lake and Kelseyville High School Mountain Bike teams, along with three adult volunteers, hiked the west and south side of the Lake Trail at Highland Springs County Park to clear it of debris. Downed trees were removed, brush trimmed back and sight lines opened up on the multi-use trail.
Although the trail is open year round to hikers, it was just recently re-opened for the season to mountain bikers and equestrians.
“Part of enjoying trails is helping to work on and maintain them,” said Tami Cramer, one of the coaches for the CLHS/KHS mountain bike teams. “The high school riders are highly encouraged to become involved in trail stewardship. We tell them all the time, they are ambassadors of mountain biking.”
The Clear Lake and Kelseyville High School Mountain Bike teams, now in their fourth year, are registered teams in the Nor Cal High School Cycling League which is governed by NICA (National Interscholastic Cycling Association).
