LAKEPORT >> Middletown blanked Clear Lake 5-0 in Coastal Mountain Conference tennis action on Thursday afternoon in Lakeport, setting up a first-place showdown today when the Mustangs (6-1) close out their regular-season schedule at St. Helena (7-0).
Middletown beat Clear Lake (0-8) in straight sets in four of five matches. The exception was No. 2 singles where Trevor Smith beat Liam Stahl 6-1, 4-6, 6-1.
“Best he’s played all year,” Clear Lake coach Milo Meyer said of Stahl.
Other single winners were Chris King, 6-1, 6-2, and Robert Amante, 6-1, 6-1.
Also for Middletown, Ari Diaz and Christian Nikolov won 6-1, 6-2 in first doubles while Johnny Nance and G. Gonzalez prevailed 6-1, 6-1 in second doubles.
