LAKEPORT >> Scott Mackenzie of Hercules and Jimmy Kuroki of Richmond were at the top of the leader board with a five-fish limit weighing 37.02 pounds after the first round of the American Bass Lucas Oil Open on Friday at Clear Lake.

Mackenzie and Kuroki also caught the big fish on Friday, a 9.25-pounder.

The final round of the tournament is today. The weigh-in begins at 3 p.m. at Konocti Vista Casino, Resort and Marina.

It took at least 25 pounds to crack the top 10 on day one. Twenty-seven out of 34 boats brought a five-fish limit to the scales and the average fish weight was a solid 4.65 pounds. In addition to the big fish on Friday, four other fish in excess of 8 pounds were brought to the scales.

Among Lake County fishermen in the field, Wayne Breazeale and partner Gary Barrett were in third place with 31.68 pounds while Paul Bailey and partner Matt Newman were ninth with 25.80.

The team champions will receive at least $6,000 and, depending on options, could make in excess of $8,000.
