TRACY >> Kelseyville High School freshman Matt Wotherspoon carded the eighth lowest round of the day, shooting a 6-over-par 78, on Monday during the seventh annual Tracy Invitational golf tournament at Tracy Country Club.

Nick Sharp of Ripon was declared the champion after winning a back-nine card-off with Dustin Sparks of Benicia, Tom Boer of Liberty and Jared Finney of Tracy. All four golfers finished with 1-over-par 73s.

Wotherspoon led Kelseyville, 16th in team scoring, with his round of 78 that featured four birdies. Also for the Knights, Sophie Sells finished with 97, Joe Tannous had 97, and Israel Gonzales 98.

“It was a good day for Matt and Sophie and a good experience for all the golfers,” Kelseyville coach John Berry said of playing in the Tracy Invitational. “The weather was beautiful … 86 degrees and just a slight breeze on the back nine.”

Kelseyville returns to action along with other teams in the Coastal Mountain Conference South, including Middletown and Clear Lake, on Wednesday at Windsor Golf Club where round one of the CMC Championships take place beginning at 1:30 p.m.
