Lake County >> The Clear Lake Trowel and Trellis Garden Club’s Garden Tour is May 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit seven gardens ranging from Kelseyville to Upper Lake.
The pictured garden was created 45 years ago on 2 acres of an abandoned walnut orchard. Over the years, Manzanita, Toyon and Ceanothus have established themselves among the few remaining walnuts. Deer, drought and diminished well water made it necessary to choose deer resistant and drought tolerant plant material, especially indigenous native plants. Trees, shrubs and perennials in a randomly organized fashion are used to maintain a peaceful and natural feeling, along with wood benches, sculptures and bridges constructed by the owner.
