Hidden Valley Lake >> The body of a man reported missing was discovered at about 12:17 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO).
Stephen Carter, 48, was found in a wooded area on his family’s property between Lower Lake and Hidden Valley Lake.
Carter, a longtime public defender and attorney, was reported missing on Saturday. Family members said they last heard from Carter on Friday just after 6 p.m. when he sent a text message, according to Lt. Steve Brooks.
Evidence, items, and information gathered during the course of the search and investigation indicated that he died of self-inflicted injuries, Brooks stated.
