UPDATED:

Spring is in the air and more than 150 dancers are ready to hit the stage of the Soper Reese Theatre on May 2 and 3 for the Lake County Arts Council’s 34th Annual Spring Dance Festival, “Shake It!”

And indeed they do, with dancers of all ages from 5 to 80 show off their talent in dance from ballet, toe, tap, hip hop, modern and stage/theatrical productions and, to cap the performances, always Michelle John-Smith and her group of clogging enthusiasts.

A real surprise at auditions was the announcement that energetic Hip Hop instructor Briana Rojas had just delivered a beautiful young daughter who is already kicking up her heels. Rojas’ students took over the routine and revealed the depth of their training. Rojas has incorporated her love of Hip Hop and classical dance, and under instructors, Antoinette Goetz and Sheila LaVine at Lakeport’s School of Dance, has moved Hip Hop into a new form of art and dance.

Exciting moves and energy don’t stop there. The performers have prepared an exotic and energetic African dance.

Want a breather or change of pace? Enjoy soft ballet, classical toe, and new performances of modern dance; Lake County Arts Council’s 34th Spring Dance Festival is truly a program of dance for all ages to enjoy.

Two performances are scheduled: Saturday, May 2 at 6 p.m. and Sunday, May 3 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at the Soper Reese Box Office, 275 S. Main Street in Lakeport, the Travel Center, 1265 S. Main St. Lakeport. Ticket prices are $10 for students under 12, $15 for assigned seating and $20 for Lodge. For more information, please call 263-0577 or the Main St. Gallery at 263-6658.
