UPDATED:

Taking a look at what is going on across the Country, our very unique region has many aspects in common with other more rural regions of the country. Economy, jobs, sustainability, tourism, growth, today and for future generations seem to be a few overarching themes. I’m not saying we are exactly the same, but we certainly can take advantage of their experiences

to help catapult our own region into an even brighter future.

Thanks to the Internet, there are millions of voices speaking out and about the needs of rural American towns and regions. This opportunity for connection to like-minded individuals is as you would guess unprecedented, and I believe we can take advantage of it here by not having to recreate the wheel.

Key topics other more rural regions are facing include; developing a more clearly defined “sense of place, “ managing growth while maintaining authentic charm and sensibility, jobs, primary industry, travel and tourism, retail draw, infrastructure, community services, art/culture, education, sustainability, and/or green energy options. I think we also face these key issues.

Our job right now is to first look within. At the Chamber we are connecting what we have accomplished, and what is working for the business and greater community. (Through your input.)Then letting go of what doesn’t work and moving forward with a more clear, concise agenda/services to members and the region. Hundreds of inputs over the course of the last two years lead to our 2015 Four Pillars of Change: (Our kick off to the Chamber’s new way of doing business in Lake County.)

1 — Shore up management and new media talent.

2 — Clarify and refine Chamber Direction and Goals.

3 — Update our branding and communications style, methods and marketing.

4 — Mobilize by action teams focused on results.

The original intent of any chamber of commerce is to act as a network, and advocate on behalf of the business and community at large. Here in our region, the Chamber serves as much more than that. And we do that because we have strong member-participation with diverse needs and interests. There are approximately 65, 000 residents and 2500 businesses here in Lake County. 475 businesses are Chamber members. Being a member of the Lake County Chamber of Commerce means you are taking an active community interest, that you are not just sitting on the sidelines hoping the right thing will happen for your business or your community— you are playing a role in making it happen.
