LAKE COUNTY >> The Lake County Sheriff’s Activity League (LCSAL) is hosting a kayaking class for youngsters ages 11-18. Teenagers must still be in school to be eligible for the class.
Volunteer instructors have passed a background check.
Weather permitting, class dates are May 16, May 30, June 6 and June 19. Kayaking will take place at Highland Springs Dam on Highland Springs Road. Please assemble at the picnic tables. Once the kayaking classes open, other lakes may be considered.
Classes begin at 9 a.m. and last up to 90 minutes. LCSAL provides volunteers, insurance, water, a snack for participants, kayaks, paddles, seats and life vests. Participants are expected to bring a hat, sunscreen and appropriate footwear for rocky or slippery lake bottoms while entering and exiting the kayak.
Swimming is not part of the outing.
Participants may attend one or more sessions depending on availability. If you would like to participate please contact Mary Borjon at 279-1050 to secure the required form. Participants must submit a completed and signed waiver and release form prior to the date of the kayak outing or a slot cannot be held.
