LAKEPORT >> Sutter Lakeside Hospital recently kicked off its fundraising drive for a new 3D mammography screening system, and has already received more than $35,000. Now, since the hospital received the Sutter Health Match Grant, donors can double their dollars toward this life-saving community resource.
“We’re asking our community to join us in the fight against breast cancer by helping to raise $264,000,” said Sutter Lakeside Chief Administrative Officer Siri Nelson. “Together we can improve the health and well-being of our community.”
The 3D mammography system will transform breast cancer services in Lake County. The machine can detect breast cancer earlier so treatments can begin earlier. Patient benefits include earlier detection of breast cancer; more comfortable, fast testing using less radiation; and clear results that reduce the need for biopsies.
“Early breast cancer detection and treatment save lives,” Nelson said. “We want this life-saving technology for Lake County residents.”
Past Sutter Health matching grants have helped the hospital purchase new women’s imaging equipment, including a breast biopsy system and bone scanner. Other programs and technologies supported by Sutter Health matching grants include the Mobility Park for rehab patients, and new stroke telemedicine equipment that Sutter Lakeside physicians use to work with a specialized team of stroke doctors at the California Pacific Medical Center’s Neuroscience Institute.
Sutter Health matching grants are critical to Sutter Lakeside, a small rural community with few funds. What the community lacks in resources it supplements with an incredible sense of teamwork, generosity and commitment.
“Our dedication to providing the best health care for our patients starts on the hospital floors and spreads throughout the community,” Nelson observed. “The Sutter Health matching grant increases the impact of the donations our leaders, staff, volunteers and community members provide and proves once again that a small, disadvantaged community can do big things.”
