LAKE COUNTY >> The E Center Women, Infants and Children Program (WIC) released its May 2015 clinic schedule. The nationwide, federally sponsored WIC nutrition program provides nutrition education, support and help with breastfeeding, community and healthcare referrals, and checks for supplemental food to eligible pregnant women, new moms, postpartum women, infants and children under the age of five. WIC encourages enrollment of migrants and eligible women in the early months of pregnancy. Single fathers, foster parents and guardians of children under age five are also eligible to enroll their children. Formula supplementation is available for infants. The food packs include fruits, vegetables, eggs, cheese, milk, cereal, juice, whole grains, and beans or peanut butter. This non-profit program has generous income guidelines. For example, a family of four can have a yearly gross income of $44,123 and still be eligible for the health benefits of the WIC program. Bilingual staff and lunch-hour appointments are available. Some Friday appointments in Lakeport and Clearlake are also available. Call ahead for an appointment.
E Center WIC is closed on Monday May 25th for Memorial Day.
The Lakeport office at 831 Bevins St. is accepting appointments for May 5, 6 (p.m. only), 12, 19, 22 and 26. Schedule is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The Clearlake office at 14085-4 Lakeshore Dr. is accepting appointments for May 7, 14, 15, 18, 20, 21 and 28. Schedule is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
WIC is accepting appointments in Middletown at the First Baptist Church, at 15576 Graham Rd., on May 1 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 2 p.m., and in Lucerne at the First Lutheran Church, at 3863 Country Club Dr., on May 8 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 2 p.m.
