Lake County >> Lake County Theatre Company (LCTC) is hosting teens-only auditions for the classic comedy Arsenic and Old Lace.

Directing this production will be the senior project of CLHS student Chris Griffith, who has performed in several shows with both LCTC and Clear Lake High School. Griffith will be mentored by Maheanani Phillips, who directed Neil Simon’s “Rumors” in 2013 and was the assistant director for “The Cemetery Club” in 2012, both for LCTC. Griffith will also be working with other veteran LCTC directors, stage managers and producers to help him bring this project to the stage.

“I wanted to do something unique for my senior project,” said Griffith. “And I’ve always loved theater, so this made sense. I chose this particular play because it is a well-known comedy.”

Arsenic and Old Lace is described as “a farcical black comedy revolving around the Brewster family, descended from the ‘Mayflower,’ but now composed of insane homicidal maniacs.”

The cast consists of eleven men and three women, though the directors are open to gender-blind casting; in other words, they’re comfortable casting a female in a male role, and vice-versa. All Lake County teens are encouraged to audition. Try-outs will be May 9 at 10 a.m. and May 12 at 6:30 p.m. Both auditions will be held at the Gard Street Multipurpose Room in Kelseyville. There is no need to prepare anything specific for auditions as there will be script pieces to read from. Rehearsals will begin in August and the performances will take place in October.
