MIDDLETOWN >> Instruments historically used in American folk music reappear in the upbeat music of The Hobos, a group initially drawn together for the opening festivities of the Gibson Museum & Cultural Center in Middletown a year ago.
Sunday, the group joins the celebration of Gibson’s first anniversary at a gala afternoon event.
The Hobos will enact a snippet of Lake County history as well as merely entertain with their music. They are scheduled to appear at 5 p.m., immediately following dinner in the 3-to-7 revelry at the Twin Pine Hotel & Casino Event Center south of Middletown.
After their appearance, The Peculiars, another local band playing more familiar instruments — except for a euphonium, a relative of the tuba — will present a handful of tunes most popular between 1890 and 1928. Most of those songs will still be familiar to many people. Dancing is encouraged to the old songs as well as the more recent numbers that will follow.
Appealing prizes will tempt party-goers to join in a wine raffle or a bean bag toss, as well as a handful of silent auctions. Up for the taking are such things as a cord of firewood, a glider flight, golf for four with instructor, dinner and overnight at Twin Pine, a unique wedding venue and a passel of smaller offerings.
Phone to see if tickets, at $30 each, are still available: 987-4695, 295-7174 or 987-2349.
