LAKEPORT >> Sons In Retirement (SIR) held its monthly meeting at the TNT Restaurant in Lakeport on April 10. The Big Sir, Ed Brooks, introduced the main topic of discussion, “How can we attract new members?”

During the discussion it was pointed out that at this time of year, the group’s emphasis is focused on golf. Many members spoke up and the discussion resulted in the following possibilities: bowling, biking, chess, horseshoes and more travel options for this time of the year. Bob Rumfelt, the editor of the SIR bulletin, volunteered to work on starting a biking group.

Bob Specht, the Travel Chair, reported that the two day trip to Reno on March 25 and 26 to see “Madame Houdini” was a big success. Specht also reported that he was working on a bus trip to see “My Fair Lady’ at the Wells Fargo Pavilion early in June. He was also looking into ways how he might be able to schedule a show during the Reno Golf tournament in June.

Our Golf chairman, Jim Cary, announced that the tournaments in May would be held on May 6 at the Vinter’s Course and on May 20 at Adam Springs. Although our Little Sir Frank West was unable to attend this meeting he sent word that he had arranged for Steve Moore to be the Guest Speaker at the May Meeting. Moore is the new owner on the Black Rock Golf Course, formally known as Rob Roy.

SIR is a social organization for men of retirement age who are pursuing the goal of enjoying their later years. It has 142 branches with 18,000 members throughout the state. Branch 168 holds a Luncheon on the second Friday of each month at the TNT Restaurant in Lakeport.
