LAKE COUNTY >> Giving back to the community is one of the objectives of the Clear Lake Bassmasters, a local bass club that has been around for the last 30 years. During that time they’ve installed new docks at Lakeside County Park and the Lucerne County Park, served as sponsors of “Take a kid fishing day” and manned the bass release boat during major tournaments to help protect the lake’s fish.
Recently the club honored four deceased members by placing four benches at local fishing and tackle shops located around the lake. The shops are Eticket Tackle in Lakeport, Clear Lake Outdoors in Lakeport, Clearlake Bait and Tackle in Clearlake, and Limit Out Bait and Tackle in Clearlake Oaks. The benches are inscribed with the names of the deceased club members; John Graham, Don Weaving, Willie Ray and Terry Pyers as well as the inscription “Clear Lake Bassmasters, in memory of our members. ‘Still on the Lake.’”
Linda Pyers, widow of Terry Pyers, said, “Flo Weaving and myself are very grateful for the friendship and great times our husbands enjoyed as members of the Clear Lake Bassmasters. We hope that many of their fishing friends will stop, sit and share a story or two. During those conversions listen and you might hear a whisper in your ear telling you a better bait, color or location to catch a ‘big green slimy thing.’”
