KANSAS CITY, Kan. >> Former Clear Lake High School varsity girls’ basketball coach Ron Jackson died Sunday of an apparent heart attack at his home in Kansas City, Kansas, according to family members.

Jackson, 61, a Kelseyville High School graduate, coached Clear Lake for three seasons between 1986-89, including a most memorable 1988-89 campaign when the Cardinals made it as far as the Northern California Division V Championships.

Jackson went 67-15 in his three seasons at Clear Lake and took the Cardinals to the playoffs each year. They made it to the Class A semifinals in 1986-87 and to the North Coast Section Division V semifinals in 1987-88 before breaking through in 1988-89. Clear Lake won its first 16 games that season with such standouts as Jenny Schaal, Diana Brown, Shelly Goodwn and Diane Peterson leading the way. They went on to win the North Central League I title, the sectional championship and two games in the NorCal playoffs, including a heart-pounding overtime road victory against Sacred Heart, before falling to Menlo School in the NorCal finals at Arco Arena in Sacramento. The Cardinals finished 28-2 that season.

Jackson also coached briefly at Upper Lake High School.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
