Lake County has thousands of species of insects and they range from the Clear Lake gnat, various species of mosquitoes to yellow jackets and other insects. As part of the Lake County Library “Know Lake County” series of programs, the public will have the opportunity to know more about the many insects that impact residents lives. Jamesina Scott, district manager of Lake County Vector Control, will give a presentation on Saturday afternoon starting at 2 p.m. at the Lakeport Library, 1425 High St., Lakeport.

Scott, who has a Ph.D in biology will talk about all types of insects and how the public can deal with them. For example, the Clear Lake gnat is one of the most numerous and troublesome insects in the county and there have been numerous steps to control them that range from spraying the lake with DDT to introducing silverside minnows.

A different program is presented each month and is open to the public and is free. The programs normally draw large crowds.
