Lake County >> The garden of The historic Tallman Hotel and Blue Wing Restaurant in Upper Lake is one of the seven gardens from around the lake being featured in the Clear Lake Trowel and Trellis Garden Club’s “Hidden Garden’s of Lake County” Garden Tour scheduled for May 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The 17 room hotel built in the 1890s was completely restored by Bernie and Lynn Butcher and reopened in 2006. The gardens, designed by Tamara Crocker Designs, feature a courtyard shaded by six London Plane Trees and a myriad of unusual plants and flowering shrubs. Local landscape designer Pat Novotny assisted with the design and installation. The effect is one of Mediterranean wine country charm.
This restaurant and hotel are a part of the “Farm-to-Table” concept and use their own fresh vegetables and herbs grown in the garden. This concept is also being used in local school student gardens in their wonderful “Farm to School” program. Proceeds from this event will go to these educational student gardens and for two scholarships.
The hotel garden will open at 9:30 a.m. Tickets can be purchased across the street on the porch of the Lake County Wine Studio. The Blue Wing Restaurant will open at 11:30.
