Lakeport >> Opening night of “An Evening of One Acts” is approaching.

Theater-lovers have a unique opportunity to see not one, but eight different plays in one evening, and for the price of one ticket. This is the first of this type of production for the Lake County Theatre Company (LCTC), though the idea has been discussed for years.

“We are excited to finally see this concept come to life on the stage,” said mentor-director Tim Barnes. Each of the short plays has a unique cast and a different director. “Patient Confidentiality” tells of the complicated love-triangle of three patients in a psychologist’s office. “The Oliver and Grady Show” (broken into two shorter plays) is vaudevillian in style, and follows the hilarious antics of Oliver and Grady (think Abbot and Costello) as they try to order lunch and buy a suit.

In “One Tennis Shoe,” a husband confronts his wife about her hoarding habits. “Happily Ever After” takes place in a match-maker dating service office, and reminds us of the importance of reading the fine print. The couple in “Post-Its: Notes on a Marriage” re-live their many years together through notes they left each other on Post-its.

“Master Poisoner,” the darkest of our short plays, tells the tale of a master teaching his apprentice a few tricks of the (poisoning) trade. In “Best Daddy,” a father (with a rather twisted sense of humor) presents his teenage daughter with the ultimate birthday gift.

Some of the plays feature local playwrights, and others are written by tried-and-true storytellers. Likewise, some of our directors are brand new to the scene, while others have a lot of directorial experience under their belts. The cast is the same: you will see several brand-new faces under the spotlight, and others that you will recognize from such LCTC favorites as “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress,” “Spamalot,” “The Rocky Horror Show,” “The Foreigner,” and more.

An Evening of One Acts opens Friday, May 29 at 7 p.m. at the Gard Street School Multipurpose Room in Kelseyville. Additional showings are Saturday, May 30 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, May 31 at 2 p.m. in the same location. The following weekend, the show will move to the Lower Lake Schoolhouse Museum. Showings in Lower Lake are Friday, June 5, and Saturday, June 6 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, June 7 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are available for $10 general or $12 reserved (first two rows) at Pieces Boutique in Lakeport, The Game Hub in Lower Lake, or online at www.lakecountytheatrecompany.org. Tickets will be $2 more at the door.

This production is recommended for audiences 13 and older. For information, call 533-3406.
