Lakeport >> Officials have confirmed the death of a passenger involved in a Friday night car crash.
Nicholas Ivecevich, 21, is charged with a felony DUI after his 1997 Honda Civic hit a utility pole on Park Way north of Lakeshore Boulevard at about 11 p.m.
According to a report by California Highway Patrol officer Ryan Erickson, as Ivecevich was rounding a right-hand turn at an unknown speed, he lost control of his vehicle, went off the roadway and struck the pole. Due to the force of the impact, Francesca Rose Schetter, 19, sustained major injuries and emergency personnel had to extricate her from the car using the Jaws of Life. Schetter, of Lakeport, was transported to Sutter Lakeside Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Ivecevich, also of Lakeport, suffered broken ribs and a lacerated liver. He was placed under arrest at the scene of the incident and later flown out via REACH air ambulance to an out-of-county hospital for treatment.
The incident is still under investigation by Erickson.
