Clearlake Oaks >> Authorities suspect murder/suicide in the deaths of a man and a woman on Saturday.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) deputies arrived at a home on the The Plaza for what was initially a welfare check. When they arrived, deputies discovered Laura Ann Matthews, 58, and Carl Garnett McHughes Jr., 53, dead with apparent gunshot wounds as well as a firearm, Lt. Steve Brooks stated in a media release.
The personnel from the LCSO Major Crimes Unit are investigating the incident as an apparent murder/suicide; however, the final determination is pending autopsy results, scheduled to be completed later in the week, and further examination of evidence recovered at the scene.
