FERNDALE >> The Upper Lake Cougars lost 11-0 to Ferndale in five innings in the opening round of the North Coast Section Division V softball playoffs on Tuesday afternoon in Ferndale.

The loss ends Upper Lake’s season at 13-7.

Ferndale (12-11), the No. 6 seed, advances to the quarterfinals on either Friday or Saturday against the winner of today’s first-round game between St. Bernard of Eureka and Making Waves.

Upper Lake qualified for the playoffs as an at-large team after finishing third in the North Central League II standings behind co-champions Calistoga and St. Vincent, both winners in first-round playoff action on Tuesday — Calistoga defeated Oakland Military Institute 11-0 in five innings while St. Vincent beat College Prep 6-2. St. Vincent plays at Calistoga in the quarterfinals on Friday at 5 p.m.
